2016 Hyundai Accent Hits Dealerships This August

Sporty compact by Hyundai delivers strong value and bold styling to shoppers

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., August 26, 2015 — Today Hyundai released information on the 2016 Accent. Accent provides shoppers with extraordinary value by blending utility, style and performance together in a compact car that’s both attractive and affordable. For the 2016 model year, Accent gets minor changes, including more consistent trim-level naming and some packaging updates. 2016 Accent arrives in dealerships this month at a starting price of $14,745.

Accent Sedan and Accent Hatchback are the vehicle’s two distinct models. For naming consistency, Accent GLS and Accent GS have been renamed to Accent SE Sedan and Accent SE Hatchback, respectively, for the 2016 model year. Accent Hatchback continues to offer a Sport trim, with sportier visual cues and driving dynamics over the SE trim.

Since launch, Accent’s product success has garnered attention from automotive and industry experts, being awarded various coveted awards and accolades. Last month, for the second year in a row, Accent earned the highest honor in the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) for the small-car segment. 1EPA-estimated fuel consumption

Several systems in the Accent contribute to optimal fuel efficiency. The vehicle can be equipped with an available six-speed manual or automatic with SHIFTRONIC manual control, delivering smooth and efficient power delivery. Low-rolling resistance silica tires and a slippery shape (0.28 cd) reduce friction with the road and the air. This aerodynamic shape also includes a kicked up trunk edge, wheel arches which shield the tires and an optimized engine undercover. Finally, the Active ECO system modifies engine and transmission control to smooth out throttle response. By turning on the Active ECO system, drivers can realize up to a seven percent increase in fuel economy.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., June 17, 2015Hyundai ranked fourth among all brands in the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) and second among non-premium automakers. In addition, the 2015 Hyundai Tucson was awarded for the highest initial quality in the small SUV segment and the 2015 Hyundai Accent earned the highest honor in the small-car segment for the second year in a row.

Hyundai is committed to delivering its owners exceptional quality vehicles,” said Frank Ferrara, executive vice president, customer satisfaction, Hyundai Motor America. “Not only do we take the improvement of quality on our existing models seriously, but we must also launch new vehicles with the highest quality right out of the gate. It is important for our customers to be happy with their vehicles, and that starts with quality and educating them on how to use all the features of their vehicle. Results like these demonstrate how well we’re succeeding in connecting with our customers on all levels.”

IQS, now in its 29th year, serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership. According to the study, Tucson and Accent owners reported fewer problems with their vehicles than any other small SUV or small car, respectively.

“Small SUVs and small cars are some of the most popular vehicles on the road today and nearly every automaker has products that compete in these segments, giving consumers many options to choose from,” said Mircea Gradu, executive director, engineering and quality, Hyundai Motor America. “Both the Accent and Tucson were ranked highest in their crowded segments for high quality, which provides owners peace of mind when it comes to an important financial purchase.”

Since its current-generation introduction in April 2011, Accent has delivered extraordinary value by blending utility, style, performance and class-above features in a compelling package. Now in its third year of production, the 2014 model-year Accent includes more standard equipment and adds new style and convenience features.

One-touch triple turn signal, sliding sun visors and a driver’s blind spot mirror are now standard on all 2014 Accent trims for added safety and convenience. Stylish projector headlights with LED accents join a driver’s auto-up power window and tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel on 5-door SE and 4-door Premium Package models. The sporty 5-door SE adds an available B&M Racing Sport Shifter for added performance.

Accent’s product success has received attention from automotive and industry experts, being awarded various coveted awards and accolades since its reveal. Along with two designations from Ward’s AutoWorld in 2012, Accent was the highest rated subcompact sedan by a leading enthusiast magazine, above Chevrolet Sonic, Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris. This year, it won its second consecutive MotorWeek Driver’s Choice Award for Best Subcompact Car.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY FOR SUPERIOR FUEL ECONOMY

Selected as one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines in 2012, the Accent’s all-aluminum 1.6-liter Gamma four-cylinder engine features the latest innovations in engine technology to deliver an unsurpassed 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque and 27 mpg city and up to 38 mpg highway EPA-estimated fuel economy rating.

2014 Hyundai Accent Engine

The engine’s most notable feature is its use of Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI), the first car with GDI technology in the subcompact category. By precisely controlling the injection of fuel, GDI allows for better fuel economy, increased power and reduced emissions. The application of Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) on both intake and exhaust camshafts allows for increased efficiency, improved fuel economy and reduced emissions. Other elements resulting in reduced fuel consumption include an Alternator Management System, an offset crankshaft design, variable induction system and electronic throttle control. To reduce lifetime operation costs and increase reliability, the Gamma features a maintenance-free silent roller timing chain and innovative anti-friction coatings such as a CrN Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating.

Gamma highlights include:

  • Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT)
    • D-CVVT (intake and exhaust camshaft) camshafts and hydraulic engine mounts provide optimum power, efficiency and refinement. Using CVVT on both camshafts has several advantages when compared to using it only on the intake camshaft including an improvement in performance (increased volumetric efficiency) and fuel economy (reduced pumping loss), and a reduction in hydrocarbon emissions
  • Roller Timing Chain
    • Helps increase the reliability of the Gamma 1.6-liter engine
  • Electronic Throttle Control
    • This system accurately controls air intake and engine torque, improving drivability, response and fuel economy
  • Innovative Anti-Friction Coatings

Working together, the complete range of engine technologies produce an engine that offers:

  • Unsurpassed horsepower and specific output at 86 horsepower per liter
  • Low emissions with ULEV certification
  • High reliability backed by a 10-year / 100,000-mile powertrain warranty

1EPA-estimated fuel consumption

Several systems in the Accent contribute to optimal fuel efficiency. The vehicle can be equipped with an available six-speed manual or automatic with SHIFTRONIC manual control, delivering smooth and efficient power delivery. Low-rolling resistance silica tires and a slippery shape (0.30 cd) reduce friction with the road and the air.

Low Curb Weight

Despite the additional content, safety features and technology packed into the 2014 Accent, Hyundai has avoided the typical associated penalty of increased weight. A low curb weight corresponds to an improvement not only in fuel economy but all other dynamic areas. In fact, Accent by far offers the best power-to-weight ratio in its class, providing drivers with both low fuel consumption and responsive performance. Highlights that contribute to a low curb weight include the 1.6-liter Gamma GDI engine with aluminum block, monotube shock absorbers, integrated parking brake and a super-flat torque converter.

SAFETY

A long list of safety features is included as standard equipment on all 2014 Accent models. A total of six airbags help protect occupants in the event of a collision, including two front impact airbags, two front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and curtain side-impact airbags for front and rear passengers. Accent’s standard front-seat active head restraints help prevent whiplash by automatically reducing the space between a front occupant’s head and the head restraint during certain rear collisions and are highly recommended by organizations such as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Active front head restraints are not available on Fiesta or Mazda2.

Collision Load Dispersion

The Accent’s structure distributes the force of an impact to help maintain the integrity of the cabin. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control work together to help deliver confident handling in virtually all conditions. Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) integrates control of the ESC and motor-driven power steering (MDPS) to provide handling assistance in slippery conditions or in sudden cornering scenarios. The system can deliver counter-steering when required to help assist the driver in maintaining control of the vehicle.

Vehicle Stability Management

2014 Hyundai Accent VSM

Braking System

An Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) featuring Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) is also included. EBD apportions the braking force between front and rear axles to help maximize braking performance. In the event of a panic stop, BA ensures that maximum braking force is applied.

SMALL ON THE OUTSIDE, BIG ON THE INSIDE

2014 Hyundai Accent Interior

All Accents ride on a 101.2 inch wheelbase, 2.8-inches longer than the previous generation. The Accent 4-door’s overall length has increased by 3.5 inches to 172 inches. Total length of the new five-door version is 162 inches. As a result, Accent enjoys superior interior volume and passenger space. While the car’s exterior dimensions are consistent with those of traditional subcompacts, Accent is classified by the EPA as a compact sedan thanks to its interior volume. Toyota Yaris and Ford Fiesta are classified as subcompact cars. In addition, the Accent five-door has more cargo capacity than the Nissan Juke. The Accent has best-in-class front and rear shoulder room, and the five-door also has more cargo volume than many of its compact five-door competitors.

Convenient storage spaces are included throughout the cabin, including bottle holders in the front doors and a storage tray at the base of the center console. A sliding armrest storage console is available, which is a segment first. Split and fold 60/40 rear seats are standard for increased cargo flexibility when transporting longer items. Not only does Accent have multiple storage areas, but it delivers more useable storage capacity while keeping an attractive appearance. Ward’s AutoWorld took notice of Accent’s thoughtful interior design, placing it on their 10 Best Interiors list in April 2012.

FEATURE-PACKED STANDARD AUDIO SYSTEM

2014 Accent’s standard 6-speaker, 172-watt audio system features SiriusXM®, a CD/MP3 player and iPod®/USB auxiliary jacks for ultimate flexibility while available Bluetooth® technology lets drivers stream music, make calls, access contacts and call logs using audio system controls or the available steering wheel audio controls. Voice recognition and button layout have been improved from last year based on customer feedback.

CONFIDENT DRIVING DYNAMICS

The first step toward confident driving dynamics is a rigid structure. To this end, the 2014 Accent employs high-tensile strength steel to deliver a strong, light and stiff body. Increased stiffness allowed Hyundai engineers more flexibility in terms of suspension tuning. The end result is a better balance between handling precision and ride comfort. Accent employs a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and twin-tube gas shock absorbers. The rear suspension is a torsion axle setup with coil springs and monotube shock absorbers.

All Accents have column-mounted, motor-driven electric power steering that adjusts to changing driving conditions while improving fuel economy over a conventional steering system. Accent’s turning diameter of 34.1 feet is better than Versa, Fiesta and Fit. The SE five-door model has a unique steering calibration for a sportier feel.

FLUIDIC SCULPTURE DESIGN

The 2014 Accent sports the company’s increasingly popular “Fluidic Sculpture” design. The vehicle’s exterior lines are intended to be futuristic, dynamic, and sleek. In a segment typically associated with staid designs, Accent stands out from the crowd. Hyundai’s signature hexagonal front grille and detailed swept-back headlights give Accent a compact athletic face. For added style, distinctive projector headlights with LED accents are included on five-door SE and four-door GLS Premium Package models. Five-door SE model adds a sporty roof-mounted spoiler and vertical taillights. For an assertive stance, 16-inch alloy wheels are available on GLS with Premium Package and standard on SE.

COLOR PALETTE
The 2014 Accent GLS is available with gray or beige two-tone interior. The five-door GS and SE trims are available with a gray interior or a monotone black interior. All Accents have cloth-like pillar trim made of fibrous tissue and volcanic rock for a premium look and feel.

The Accent features a bold exterior color palette with both light and dark colors including Century White, Ironman Silver, Triathlon Gray, Ultra Black, Boston Red, Mocha Bronze, Marathon Blue, Clearwater Blue and Electrolyte Green.

FEATURES AND AMENITIES WORTHY OF MORE EXPENSIVE CARS

Choosing a subcompact sedan no longer means foregoing comfort and convenience features. The 2014 Accent is offered in three trim levels. The affordable four-door GLS, the versatile, well equipped five-door GS and the sporty five-door SE.

More Affordable Accent SE Arrives in 2011

For the 2011 model year, the fun-to-drive Accent SE with 16-inch alloy wheels is now more affordable. By removing the sunroof from the SE, Hyundai was able to reduce the SE manual transmission price by $850 for an MSRP of $15,345 before destination. The Accent GS gets a 172-watt AM/FM/XM®/CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers and iPod®/USB and MP3 auxiliary inputs as standard equipment due to consumer demand. Two new colors, Clearwater Blue and Boston Red have also been added to the color palette.

The Accent’s many strengths make it not only a smart choice for buyers, but also a clear value leader in its segment. The Accent’s smart design pays comfort dividends inside, with more total interior volume than class above competitors Civic and Corolla. An efficient 1.6-liter DOHC in-line four cylinder engine powers Accent with up to 36 miles-per-gallon on the highway while producing low emissions. Add in the J.D. Power and Associates IQS Sub-Compact Car award, and Accent is a clear choice for consumers in this category.

CLASS LEADER IN J.D. POWER AND ASSOCIATES INITIAL QUALITY STUDY

In June 2010, the Accent topped the sub-compact segment in the 2010 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study (IQS). Owners of the economical and fun-to-drive 2010 Accent reported the fewest problems per 100 vehicles in its segment.

INTERIOR SPACE AND UNEXPECTED FEATURES

Interior space and unexpected features keep Accent a class above the competition. The Accent has more total interior volume than either the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic – both a vehicle class above Accent and priced thousands of dollars more. Unexpected features include a B&M Racing® Sport Shifter and XM Satellite Radio with three months of free service. The Accent SE’s standard (M/T only) B&M Racing Shifter adds shorter throw-lengths and offers more precision performance-tuned driving dynamics.

ADVANCED SAFETY FEATURES

In a bold stroke in this price-sensitive market segment, Hyundai has outfitted the Accent with state-of-the-art standard safety technologies highlighted by six airbags, including dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags and roof-mounted side-curtain airbags covering both rows of seating. The combination of side and curtain airbags, which help protect the head and body during side impacts, can reduce fatalities by more than 45 percent according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). All Accents come equipped with front seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters, which are designed to tighten the seatbelt in the event of a collision. This safety package helped the Accent GLS four-door receive a five-star frontal crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). An Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) is optional on the GS and GLS and standard on the SE.

2011 Hyundai Accent

REFINED AND CONFIDENT DESIGN

Hyundai designers gave the Accent GLS a distinctive look within its market segment. Upscale details like a chrome-accented grille combine with bold tail lights and strong character lines to deliver a standout presence. The roof-mounted flexible micro-antenna not only looks good, but also provides improved radio and satellite reception.

2011 Hyundai Accent

Externally, the three-door Accents reflect Hyundai’s sleek, confident design direction. Up front, the GL, GS and SE feature an aggressive bodycolor grille with fog lights standard on the SE. Accent SE’s high-performance P205/45R16 tires and lightweight five-spoke 16-inch aluminum wheels provide a big dose of street credibility. A long wheelbase and higher seating position increase the spacious feeling of the interior. A rear spoiler and rear defroster are standard on all Accent three-door models with the GS and SE adding a standard rear wiper.

LARGE INTERIOR

The Accent’s smart design pays comfort dividends inside, with more total interior volume than either the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic – both cars that are a vehicle class above Accent. The Accent four-door sedan has a total interior volume of 104.6 cubic feet, offering an unexpectedly spacious feel which bests the larger Civic sedan. In addition, Accent four-door has more passenger volume than Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris and Chevrolet Aveo. Accent three-door also delivers class-leading interior volume in the three-door segment. Its total interior volume of 108.1 cubic feet makes it roomer than the Civic Coupe by 12.9 cubic feet. Front passengers enjoy class-leading legroom and rear passengers enjoy a class-leading 53.1 inches of shoulder room. Accent three-door’s cargo space is 15.9 cubic feet, a total of 6.6 cubic feet larger than the Yaris three-door.

Accent’s interior finish, attention to detail and color options have reset expectations in its market segment. There’s a handsome two-tone interior color scheme available in gray or beige, or a black sporty monotone is also available. Analog instrumentation keeps the driver informed, while power steering and a six-way adjustable driver’s seat with fold-down armrest ensure long-haul comfort. Convenient storage areas are placed throughout the interior, including bins in the front and rear center console and glove compartment. GLS and SE add a passenger side seatback pocket and bottle holders in each door. Door storage pockets are standard on all trims, as are two more cup holders in front and another pair in the fold-down rear center armrest of the GLS. All Accents have a 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback making it easy to load large objects, or to mix cargo and passengers for maximum flexibility.

Hyundai has traditionally delivered high feature content for the money, and the Accent is no exception. Standard features are comprehensive, including two-speed variable intermittent wipers, adjustable head restraints for all seating positions, cabin air filtration, rear window defroster, tachometer, rear coat hook, digital clock, two 12-volt outlets and a remote hood release.

For audiophiles, a 172-watt AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system includes auxiliary iPod/USB inputs, large-format display with easy-to-use controls and a total of six speakers positioned throughout the interior for GS, SE and GLS trims. While XM Satellite Radio is either optional or not available on most competitors, it comes standard with all Accent audio systems.

CLEAN, FUEL EFFICIENT ENGINE

The Accent is powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC in-line four cylinder engine that features four valves per cylinder with CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing). The DOHC and CVVT combination give the engine a very broad powerband, coupled with high fuel efficiency and low emissions.

With better breathing from the CVVT system, performance peaks at 110 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and torque is 106 lb.-ft. at 4,500 rpm. At 110 horsepower, Accent provides more horsepower than Yaris and Aveo. Fuel economy is equally impressive, achieving up to 36 mpg regardless of transmission choice. With a manual transmission, the Accent EPA mileage is 28 mpg City and 34 mpg Highway. With the optional four-speed automatic transmission, the Accent’s 2011 EPA mileage is 27 mpg City and 36 mpg Highway besting Versa and Fit on the highway.

Besides the added performance it provides, CVVT also helps the engine operate cleanly, resulting in an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) certification for Accent. Part of the Alpha engine family, the Accent’s powerplant is a durable and technologically advanced unit that features a rigid cast-iron block and lightweight aluminum cylinder head. Engineered for the long haul, the Alpha is backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.

REMARKABLE DRIVING DYNAMICS

Accent’s stiff body structure allows the affordable Accent to deliver a comfortable ride and responsive handling. Accent features a MacPherson strut front suspension and torsion beam rear suspension both with coil springs and gas shock absorbers. A 21.0 mm diameter front stabilizer bar helps reduce body roll when cornering. Rack-and-pinion steering with engine-RPM sensing assist makes for low-effort maneuvering around town and a secure feel at high speeds. At 33.1 feet Accent’s turning diameter is better than Fit’s 34.4 feet and Versa’s 34.2 feet.

Accent has been developed to satisfy unique consumer needs. The GLS four-door is tuned for comfort, but still feels agile. The GL and GS three-door models have a unique steering rack with a sportier feel. The top-of-the-line SE trim sets the standard in the entry-level fun-to-drive category, delivering even more road-holding capability. Accent SE’s sport-tuned suspension features a 24 percent stiffer front spring rate, an 11 percent stiffer rear spring rate, a larger stabilizer bar (24 mm) and unique strut valving. This model’s 205/45R16 tires are tuned specifically for precision and improved lateral acceleration. Accent SE delivers a 70 percent increase in roll control over the GLS. To complete the performance package, Accent SE has standard four-sensor, four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) is integrated into the ABS, automatically adjusting braking force front to rear based on vehicle load.

QUALITY AND VALUE

The Accent’s many strengths make it not only a smart choice for buyers, but also a clear value leader in its segment. Accent has more passenger interior volume than the Chevrolet Aveo, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit and Honda Civic, and upscale interior appointments make it remarkably comfortable and accommodating. Features for like steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and iPod/USB inputs – demonstrate Hyundai’s commitment to continually meeting higher customer expectations and being a class-above the competition. Add in the advantage of America’s Best Warranty™, including five years and 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and choosing Accent becomes an even simpler decision for the savvy buyer.

Accent Cruises Into 2009 with 35 Miles per Gallon

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Accent enters 2009 an improved weapon against soaring gas prices, with the popular automatic transmission model achieving a 35 MPG EPA highway rating. Smart engineering enhancements to the Accent’s engine, transmission, tire pressure, powertrain management system and power steering pump improve fuel efficiency by up to eight percent. With the addition of a 2008 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Award to the trophy case, the Accent is better equipped than ever to meet the requirements of the entry-segment buyer.

NEW EQUIPMENT HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2009

· New and improved EPA fuel economy estimates

· Cruise control and sunroof added to Accent SE Premium Package

· Cruise control added to Popular Equipment Package

Interior space and unexpected features keep Accent a class above the competition. The Accent has more total interior volume than either the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic – both cars that are a size segment above Accent and priced thousands more. Unexpected features include a B&M Racing sport shifter, XM Satellite Radio® with three months of free service and auxiliary input jack for MP3 players.

The standard B&M Racing sport shifter adds shorter throw-lengths and more precision to Accent SE’s performance-tuned driving dynamics. Accent is still the only car in its class to offer XM Satellite Radio with three months of free service as standard equipment with the vehicle’s audio system. The auxiliary input jack allows iPods and other portable MP3 players to be connected directly into Accent’s audio system.

Offered in a four-door sedan (the Accent GLS) and three-door models (the Accent GS and SE) Accent continues to offer a high level of standard safety, power and economy in its class, as well as more than 35 options and accessories allowing owners to express their individual style. And as gas prices surge, Accent’s fuel economy is another smart reason for buyers to consider Accent.

The combination of side and curtain airbags, which help protect the head and body during side impacts, can reduce fatalities by more than 45 percent according to Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Additional standard safety equipment now includes a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. An Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) are optional on the GLS and standard on the SE.

Accent

REFINED AND CONFIDENT DESIGN

Hyundai designers gave the Accent GLS a distinctive look within its market segment. Upscale details like a chrome-accented grille combine with bold tail lights and strong character lines to deliver a standout presence. The roof-mounted flexible micro-antenna not only looks good, but also provides improved radio and satellite reception.

Accent

Externally, the three-door Accent GS and SE reflect Hyundai’s sleek, confident design direction. Up front, the GS and SE feature an aggressive bodycolor grille with fog lights standard on the SE. Accent SE’s high-performance P205/45R16 tires and lightweight five-spoke 16-inch aluminum wheels provide a big dose of street credibility. A long wheelbase and higher seating positions increase the spacious feeling of the interior. A rear spoiler and rear defroster are standard on all Accent three-door models with the SE adding a standard rear wiper .

LARGE INTERIOR

The Accent’s smart design pays comfort dividends inside, with more total interior volume than either the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic – both cars that are a size segment above Accent. The Accent four-door sedan has a total interior volume of 104.6 cubic feet, offering an unexpectedly spacious feel which bests the larger Civic sedan by 1.7 cubic feet.

There’s a handsome two-tone interior color scheme with either a gray or beige theme, or a sporty, black monotone interior that is available on Accent three-door. Analog instrumentation on the GLS and SE keeps the driver informed, while power steering, a tilt steering wheel and a six-way adjustable driver’s seat with fold-down armrest ensure long-haul comfort. Convenient storage areas are placed throughout the interior, including bins in the front and rear center console and glove compartment. GLS and SE add a front seatback pocket and door storage pockets. Each door pocket can also accommodate a beverage bottle, plus there are two more cupholders in front and another pair in the fold-down rear center armrest. All Accents have a 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback making it easy to load large objects, or to mix cargo and passengers for maximum flexibility.

Hyundai has traditionally delivered high feature content for the money, and the Accent is no exception. Standard features are comprehensive, including two-speed variable intermittent wipers, adjustable head restraints for all seating positions, cabin air filtration, rear window defroster, tachometer, rear coat hook, digital clock, two 12-volt outlets, and remote hood and fuel filler door releases.

For audiophiles, the available 172-watt AM/FM/XM Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system includes auxiliary input jack, large-format display with easy-to-use controls and a total of six speakers positioned throughout the interior. While XM Satellite Radio is not available on most competitors and optional on others, it comes standard with all Accent audio systems.

CLEAN, FUEL EFFICIENT ENGINE

The Accent is powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC in-line four cylinder engine that features four valves per cylinder with CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing). The DOHC and CVVT combination helps to give the engine a very broad powerband, coupled with high fuel efficiency and low emissions.

With the better breathing from the CVVT system, performance peaks at 110 horsepower at 6000 rpm and torque is 106 lb.-ft. at 4500 rpm. At 110 horsepower, Accent makes more horsepower than Yaris, Fit and Aveo. Fuel economy is also competitive. With a manual transmission, the Accent’s EPA mileage is 27 mpg City and 33 mpg Highway. With the optional four-speed automatic transmission, the Accent’s 2009 EPA rating is 26 mpg City and 35 mpg Highway.

Besides the added performance it provides, CVVT also helps the engine operate more cleanly, and the Accent is certified as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV). The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) also recognized the Hyundai Accent as one of the top 12 “Greenest Vehicles” in the industry. Part of the Alpha engine family, the Accent’s powerplant is a tough and technologically advanced unit that features a rigid cast-iron block and lightweight aluminum cylinder head. Engineered for the long haul, the Alpha is backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty.

TWO TRANSMISSION CHOICES

For engaging performance, the Accent comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission geared for quicker acceleration and a more sporty personality. For added performance, the B&M Racing shifter provides shorter throw-lengths and more precision to Accent SE’s fun-to-drive nature. Also available is an optional four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and lock-up torque converter to maximize fuel economy at highway speeds.

REMARKABLE DRIVING DYNAMICS

Accent’s stiff body structure allows the affordable Accent to deliver a comfortable ride and responsive handling. Accent features a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and gas shock absorbers, and a coupled torsion beam rear suspension with coil springs and gas shock absorbers. A 21.0-mm diameter front stabilizer bar helps reduce body roll when cornering. Rack-and-pinion steering with engine-RPM sensing assist makes for low-effort maneuvering around town, combined with a secure feel at high speed. At 33.1 feet Accent’s turning diameter is better than Fit’s 34.3 feet and Versa’s 34.2 feet.

Accent has been developed to satisfy unique consumer needs. The GLS four-door is tuned for comfort, but still feels agile. The GS three-door has a unique steering rack with a sportier feel. The top-of-the-line SE trim aims to sets the standard in the entry-level fun-to-drive category, delivering even more road-holding capability. To complete the performance package, Accent SE has a four-sensor, four-channel Antilock Braking System (ABS). Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) is integrated into the ABS, automatically adjusting braking force front to rear based on vehicle load.

QUALITY AND VALUE

Taken in total, the Accent’s many strengths make it not only a smart choice for buyers, but also a clear value leader in its segment. Advanced standard safety technologies give it an important edge. Accent has more passenger interior volume than the Chevrolet Aveo, Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit and Honda Civic, and upscale interior appointments make it remarkably comfortable and accommodating. New features for 2009 – like cruise control – demonstrate Hyundai’s commitment to continually meeting higher customer expectations and being a class-above the competiton. Add in the advantage of America’s Best Warranty™, including five years and 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and choosing Accent becomes an even simpler decision for the savvy buyer.

PERSONALIZATION

Vehicle personalization is a growing trend, and is increasingly important to new car buyers. Hyundai offers more than 35 options and accessories on the Accent three-door, enabling buyers to make their own vehicle unique. These include a DC Sports front strut tower brace, AEM short ram intake, B&M Racing sport shifter, power sunroof, a 570-watt Kenwood AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with Kenwood speakers and subwoofer, aluminum door sills, carbon fiber B-pillar appliqué, ground effects kit and an alloy fuel door.

ACCENT GLS

To simplify the buying process, the four-door Accent sedan comes in a single GLS trim level with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. GLS trim offers a wide range of features, including several items that are either optional or unavailable on competitive vehicles such as a powerful 110-horsepower 1.6-liter CVVT engine, power steering, rear coat hook, tilt steering wheel, driver and passenger illuminated vanity mirrors and standard air conditioning. There are a total of six airbags, including dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and roof mounted side-curtain airbags. Carpeted floor mats are optional. The Popular Equipment Package includes a 172-watt six-speaker AM/FM/XM Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system with auxiliary input jack, ABS with EBD, tilt steering and body color door handles and mirrors. The GLS Premium Package includes the Popular Equipment Package, plus cruise control, power windows, mirrors, door locks and remote keyless entry with alarm and panic alert.

ACCENT GS – THE PERFECT ENTRY-LEVEL CAR

In keeping with Hyundai’s high-value approach to standard equipment, the Accent GS not only looks good, but also has a remarkable array of desirable features. A tilt steering wheel and an six-way adjustable driver’s seat with fold-down armrest, reclining rear seat and power steering ensure long-haul comfort. Convenient storage areas are placed throughout the interior, including the front center console, driver storage tray and a rear storage tray. Two cupholders are ideally situated between the driver and passenger for easy reach. A 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback makes it easy to load large objects, or to mix cargo and passengers for maximum effectiveness. The roof-mounted micro antenna is aerodynamic, flexible and improves signal strength.

Standard features are comprehensive and not typically found in this segment, including two-speed variable intermittent wipers, rear spoiler, adjustable head restraints for all seating positions, cabin air filtration, rear window defroster, tachometer, digital clock, two 12-volt outlets, body color door handles, mirrors and side moldings, and remote hood and fuel filler door releases.

The GS Popular Equipment Package includes air conditioning, tilt steering and a 172-watt AM/FM/XM Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system with tweeters and auxiliary input jack. The GS Premium Equipment Package includes the GS Popular Equipment Package items plus power windows, mirrors, and door locks and remote keyless entry with alarm and panic alert. The bodycolor mirrors and door handles complete the package.

ACCENT SE – ENTRY-LEVE PERFORMANCE

The sport-oriented Accent SE takes value in an exciting new, fun-to-drive direction with the addition of the B&M Racing sport shifter. To complete the driving experience, the Accent SE features a sport-tuned suspension with unique springs, strut valving, stabilizer bar and steering gear – delivering in total a 70 percent increase in roll stiffness over the GLS. Accent SE also features air conditioning, a 172-watt AM/FM/XM Satellite Radio/CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers and auxiliary input jack; power windows with driver’s window auto-down feature, illuminated vanity mirrors, rear center armrest, power door locks, remote keyless entry with alarm and panic alert and power-adjustable exterior mirrors. On the outside, the 16-inch alloy wheels and P205/45R16 tires deliver enhanced road-holding capability, and fog lights keep the driver’s path illuminated in adverse weather. The SE trim is equipped with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and metallic interior accents. Additional storage is available with a seatback pocket and front door bottle holders. Cruise control and a power sunroof are optional as part of the Premium Equipment Package. A wide variety of accessories are available for adding the personal touch.

WARRANTY
